FPC connectors are designed for more compact consumer products

Connector manufacturers in Chinese Mainland supply a variety of mainstream FPC/FFC connectors, including DIP and SMT types. Due to the development of mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other consumer electronics towards thinner, smaller, and more multifunctional directions, manufacturers need to provide FPC/FFC connectors with smaller spacing, lower height, and higher pin density.

Major manufacturers in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan have launched FPC/FFC connectors with a spacing of 0.3mm as early as 2004. The spacing of 0.3mm and 0.5mm is currently the mainstream standard in the industry. Most of these FPC/FFC connectors use nylon, polyester, or PPS materials that meet UL94V-0 flame retardant standards for insulation, and some high-end products also use liquid crystal polymers (LCP) that can withstand higher temperatures for insulation. On the other hand, tin copper has replaced expensive brass and beryllium copper alloys as the main material for manufacturing contacts. And, in order to improve conductivity and reliability, contacts are usually first plated with 50 μ In nickel, then gold or tin plating.
